Mazatlan Marina Notes
Entrance
The entrance to the marina area north of Mazatlan is a very narrow channel. A dredge works the channel almost daily and at time can be blocking the entrance. Call the marina to find out if the dredge is working the channel.
What appears to be lobster pot buoys inside the entrance are ad-hoc shoal markers. When we arrived the shoal was on the right side of the channel. Staying very close to the breakwater wall on the left provided adequate depth (12′).
Marina El Cid
Nice resort marina. The fairways and single-finger slips are VERY tight. Ask for assistance to get in if coming in next to another boat in the slip.
Fuel dock area is shallow. Outside side of fuel dock is OK, inside side is less than 6 feet deep.
Taxis
Mazatlan has a fleet of open-air converted VW taxis for traversing the miles long Malacon. They don’t seem to frequent the parking lot at El Cid, only the regular enclosed taxis seem to be stationed there. Just go out to the road and wave at an open-air taxi without passengers and they will pull over or do a U-turn if necessary. Prices range from $100 MX for a short trip to the start of the Malacon, or $200 to old-town or the lighthouse.
