A week + on the hard

Prior to heading south there were some must-do’s remaining on the list to take care of before leaving the Bay Area. We wanted to get a fresh coat of anti-fouling bottom paint on as well as swap out our 25+ year old 3-blade MaxProp with a shiny new 4-blade MaxProp. We also wanted KKMI to check and adjust the rigging they installed in 2018.

We ended up spending 17 days in the boatyard, sweltering in the hottest weekend of the year. On the plus side we were able to take advantage of KKMI’s metal shop to have them fabricate some custom antenna brackets for our long-range cellular hotspot as well as some other odds and ends.

This was the first time living aboard in the boatyard for Kristin. It’s a trying experience to be sure, but we felt better about staying in our familiar abode rather than checking into a hotel or AirBNB during the pandemic. As far as boatyards go, KKMI Richmond is the best, cleanest, most hospitable one I’ve used by far, so in all our stay was fairly productive and reasonably comfortable.

Kristin made a short video about our boatyard visit:
